In My Happy Marriage (Season 1), Episode 6, we see Miyo kidnapped by Kaya and her stepmother. Miyo, as usual, was being tortured so she could break off her engagement with Kiyoko. Kiyoko and Koji face Koji’s father and Shinichi. Koji sees Kiyoko’s powerful abilities that bring his father down to his knees. Kaya is put in her place by Kiyoko and then Koji. Miyo surprises everyone by being determined and fighting against her bullies -Kaya and her stepmother.

My Happy Marriage (Season 1), Episode 6 “Determination and Thunder” Recap:
The episode begins with Miyo waking up from her unconscious state, with her hands tied to the house’s roof, sees her reflection in a broken mirror, and panicking. She calls out for help hoping someone will save her, but to her bad luck, Kaya comes in and asks her sister if she was having some pleasant dream.
Koji and Kiyoko are driving to the Saimori to find Miyo. Koji is getting restless as Kiyoko is totally calm in this situation. He also warns Kiyoko that they might have already harmed Miyo, and he should be worried. Kaya and her mother are annoyed with Miyo as they had hoped to see Miyo working as a servant or dying on the sidewalks. Miyo’s stepmother asks her to reject Kiyoko as her fiancée. Kaya tells her sister to repeat that as she believes she had lured Kiyoko to buy her this expensive kimono, and she can reject him. If Miyo does not listen to them, Kaya would destroy the kimono.
Kaya asks her sister to repeat what she would tell Kiyoko, and Miyo says ‘No’, sobbing, and her sister cuts the kimono. Kaya holds a pair of scissors to Miyo’s neck and asks her to say she would break off her engagement with Kiyoko, but Miyo hesitates. She knows it would be easier to escape the misery by doing what she was asked, but her heart wants other things.
Miyo tells them that she wants Kiyoko, and her stepmother slaps her. Kaya tells her mother that she will handle Miyo, and Miyo tells her that Kiyoko was never his and will never be. Her stepmother gets angry, slaps her continuously, and calls her an ungrateful brat. Kaya reminds her that she does not have the spirit sight and she is a failure. Her mother tells Miyo that she will not ruin things for Kaya. Miyo thinks about her reactions in the past, when she was treated the same way, but now she feels different.
Koji is trying to break open the door, and Miyo tells Kaya and her mother that she has grown stronger and that she and Kiyoko want each other. Kiyoko uses his powers to break the gate open, surprising everyone. Koji and Miyo’s father stop Kiyoko. Koji’s father tells Kiyoko that Miyo is not interested in marrying him, but Kiyoko wants to hear it from him. They used magical force to stop him, but it was pointless. Kiyoko defeats them, and Koji is impressed. Kaya’s mother is torturing Miyo to tell them that she will not marry Kiyoko, and Miyo tells them that she would not lie just because they asked her to.

He uses fire, and Kiyoko is annoyed as it is not the place to be using fire magic and asks Koji how many more foolish decisions he would make. Koji’s father tells Kiyoko that he will not allow him to marry Miyo, and Kiyoko attacks with lightning. Koji’s father falls unconscious. Kaya is choking Miyo, hoping for her to give in to her demands.
Kiyoko walks in and rushes towards Miyo. Before Miyo falls unconscious, he thanks Kiyoko for coming to save her and tells him that it was worth the fight. Kaya’s mother steps outside to see the whole house up in flames. Kiyoko sees the scars and the torn kimono and asks Kaya what she has done to her. Kaya tells him that it was not her fault as her sister did not possess the spirit sight, and she was superior to her sister. Kiyoko asks her to shut up and tells her that even if the heavens wished, he would never marry an arrogant woman like her.
Kiyoko carries Miyo outside. Kaya is sobbing because of anger, but she tells herself she is right. Koji informs Kaya that they had to evacuate as it was unsafe. Kaya is angry and asks him to go with Miyo as he only cares about her. Koji loses his cool and tells her that it is true that he only managed for Miyo but could not let her die here as Miyo would grieve her, and he would not let Kaya hurt Miyo again. As Kiyoko is carrying Miyo, Miyo sees her mother under the cherry blossom tree and she advises her to believe in her power.
My Happy Marriage (Season 1), Episode 6 “Determination and Thunder” Ending, Explained:
In another scene, the Emperor talks to one of the close associates about destroying the accumulated power. The Emperor is angry as Koji’s father is useless. The associate asks the Emperor’s permission to carry out a mission to put things where they belong. The Emperor grants the permission as a ripple effect would be created.
Miyo wakes up in Kiyoko’s house with Kiyoko beside her. Kiyoko checks on her, and Miyo apologizes for forgetting the amulet. Kiyoko reassures her that none of this is her fault, and it never was. Yurie comes in sobbing profusely and tells Miyo she is worried about her, and Kiyoko tells her he is glad she is back home safe. Miyo blushes and agrees.
Ultimately, we need clarification on why or what the Emperor plans to do. In the last two episodes, we are given subtle hints that Miyo possesses some power that she has not brought to her awareness, but she may be a threat once Miyo realizes it. They do not want Miyo and Kiyoko together and will do anything to separate them.
We see Miyo’s determination in this episode and the fight she puts in, which she had never done in her life. Kiyoko and Miyo did win this test in their relationship. Still, we have to wait and see if their relationship will be strong even after more superior obstacles come in their way.
