There is no medicine more effective than ardour. Because we live in the society which has awful believes that sexual disorder will put a tag of shame on masculinity of male. But instead of believing in facts, what everybody cares about is how to save their self-ego. Hitting a clean punch to these poor believes we have an interesting remake of Tamil film originally titled as “Kalyana Samayal Saadham”.

After the surprising success of Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar starrer “Dum Laga Ke Haisha”, once again this Jodi comes up with another beautiful rom-com drama called “Shubh Mangal Saavdhan”. This film about gents’ problem known as erectile dysfunction and its effects on wedding is purely stress free, filled with genuine laughs and packed with some worthy life lessons.
What made the arranged marriage of Mudit and Sugandha more intriguing is the sleek chemistry between its lead actors who have played their roles finely. Ayushmann Khurrana (as Mudit) gave his career best performance by auspiciously handling the role of a marketing employee suffering from sexual disorder and his struggles to save his love, while Bhumi Pednekar (as Sugandha) got a turning point for her career here. She is incredible in tackling the role of middle class girl seeking the desires of typical love life and her efforts to get her fiance back on track.

Arguably, the film could not have sheer fun if they didn’t have the fantastic supporting actors like Seema Bhargava (Sugandha’s Mother), Neeraj Sood (Sugandha’s father), Chitranjan Tripathi (Mudit’s father), Supriya Shukla (Mudit’s mother) and all others. Moreover, the film has three impressive tracks: “Rocket Saiyyan”, “Kanha” and “Laddoo” which convey their own magic of sarcastic lyrics. But the best outcome of the film is Hitesh Kewalya’s screenplay and dialogue writing. Some utterly risible dialogues like “Woh mera launda hai, uska kuch bhi nanha sa nahi ho sakta” and the clever humors of “Alibaba caves analogy” plus “Tea-Biscuit example” for disorder explanation are just simply hilarious.

R S Prasanna directed the film for second time. He knows the recipe very well. “Shubh Mangal Saavdhan” is the delicious dish prepared with clean and finely mixed ingredients of its story, fun, drama, music, emotions and some important lessons in a proper way. The only deficiency remains in its very common serving style at the end. But that doesn’t stop you from enjoying its taste.
“Shubh Mangal Saavdhan” is a clever and delightful film. It reminds me why arranged marriage is not boring as well simple at all. Of course it handles the issues of sexual disorder quite well. But the film’s real achievement exists in its smart and humorous story telling which keeps the film clean and prominent. Although the film’s ordinary ending could not help it to reach up to the highest scale of development. But its steadfast simplicity and undeniable fun making strategy succeeded to make it one of the finest films came this year.
