It has often been noticed that big screen ambitions, wind up in forgettable debacles. Prometheus did not, not in its entirety. It rose from the gravity of profoundness and with slight hiccups, sailed the way through. The slick and neatly cut gadgets brought an air of awe to the proceedings. The spectacular soundtrack delivered the sense of meaning this movie was looking for. Stunning CGI and visually dazzling celestial backdrop elevated the happenings and the mystery at its heart is interesting enough to keep you on the edge of your seats.

When a sequel/prequel is considered, the comparisons with the original are inevitable. As an individual cinema, Prometheus hovered to the heights of being a sumptuous 3D affair having state of art sequences and reaching depths of visual accomplishments. But, as a companion piece to critically acclaimed Alien, it faltered on some levels. It was the horror of the unknown that ignited fear in the roots of our stomach in Alien. While here, the tittering screenplay rarely allow the horror to grow. The scares were replaced by a constant sense of wonderment and excitement of the possibilities Promethues had at it’s heart. Possibilities that unfortunately, did not transition into realities. 

The flaws of the movie were redeemed by a stellar cast. Michael Fassbender as the emotionless android was simply stellar. He captured the scenes and gripped them hard with his terrific presence only to let go to Noomi Rapace who outshone her role with a testament to endurance and humanity. 

Prometheus might not be the cinematic achievement everybody hoped it to be, but it bestowed enough unadulterated sci-fi goods for the genre lovers to keep them intoxicated. A look at it from an unbiased eye might satisfy even the worst of it’s critics.
